Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
We weren’t able to make it out to the site yesterday because of the rain, but we
did make it out last Wednesday (October 20).
Wednesday, John O., Brigitte, and I excavated two test units on the north end of
the site – 530R505 and 530R510 (see Map - October 20,
2004). These were both very low density units. The only notable artifact was
a small triangular point from 530R505, probably Late Woodland after 1200 A.D.
(see Triangular Projectile Point).
Yesterday (October 23), we didn’t go to the site because it was raining.
Marianne, John O., Kevin, Frances, Conrad, and I did lab work instead. We washed
artifacts and sorted 1/8” screen bags.
This coming Wednesday (October 27) we’ll tentatively plan on digging – weather
permitting. This will be the last Wednesday that we’ll be able to dig this year
as the time changes next Saturday and it will be getting dark too early.
Next Saturday (October 30), I’ll be digging at Ponton, though some of you may
want to go to the MAS Fall Workshop in Monroe.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
