Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
We had a somewhat rainy day yesterday (Saturday, October 25), but I did make it
out to the site late in the afternoon.
When got to CNC yesterday it was still raining a little so Dave, Marianne and I
worked in the RB washing artifacts. In the afternoon, I washed the 1/8” screen
bags that we collected over the last few weeks.
About 4:30 I went over to the site to finish excavating unit 505R498 that we had
started on Wednesday (see Ponton Map in the photo gallery below). I didn’t
recover much else from this unit. I then excavated unit 507R499. There wasn’t
much of interest related to the cabin in 507R499, but I did recover an Early
Woodland stemmed point made of Onondaga chert (see the pictures of the Stemmed
Point in the photo gallery)!
This Wednesday it will be getting dark about 6:00 so we won’t be able to dig.
We’ll meet at the Resource Building instead and start to do lab work.
Next Saturday, we’ll plan on excavating.
Also check out the web site if you haven’t yet – I’ve been adding new stuff
(http://www.chippewanaturecenter.com/Oxbow/).
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
