Subject: Lab Work and Christmas Party
Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
Nik, Conrad, and I saw John off on Saturday - it was his last session with us as
the moving van was coming yesterday for his move back to Canada. Hopefully,
he’ll visit us next summer!!
I’ve put a page on the website with pictures from the Christmas/Farewell Party
we had on November 16. It’s on our “About Us” page and the address to the page
is:
http://www.chippewanaturecenter.com/Oxbow/Christmas%202005.htm.
We are now “out of the field” and doing lab work. Right now we’re washing the
artifacts from this summer. I’ve been starting to analyze them and have been
making a few finds in the bags. Two weeks ago I found a sandstone abrader in a
bag (see the picture below). Note the grooves on the two faces. This tool would
have been used like sandpaper or for doing things like sharpening awls. I’ve
also been finding rimsherds and this past week I found two notched projectile
point bases! I’ll be sending pictures of these artifacts in the future.

Tomorrow we’ll do lab work at the Resource Building. I should be to CNC earlier
than I thought this weekend (mid-afternoon or earlier). We’ll also have our
regular lab session this Saturday.
Hope to see you soon!
Scott
