Subject: 2008 field season to begin this Saturday
Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
It’s looking like it should be fairly nice this Saturday, so we’ll plan on
opening the 2008 field season at
Sias East (20MD263)!
I made it out to the site a week ago (Wed. April 16) and took a few photos (see
Photo 1 and
Photo 2) – everything looked fine. The
river had risen and just missed overflowing the units. Last
Saturday (April 19), I went to the site and gridded out new units on the east
side of the 110 West Block
(see Map). So we are ready to go.
This year we’ll start the season by excavating on the east side of the 110 West
Block. During this
season we’ll try to find the boundaries of the Middle Woodland occupation, test
the flood plain for
middens, as well as get datable material from the Middle Woodland occupation and
further clarify the
Late Prehistoric occupation.
Hope to see you at the site this Saturday!
Scott
