Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
We made it out to Sias East yesterday and had a good day excavating. Dave, Nik,
Becky, Brian Reisner
(first time at the site), and I excavated.
In the morning we excavated the bottom of the plow zone (20-25 cm and 25-30 cm
levels) in units 0S-
100W and 1N-100W. We recovered the usual flakes, bone fragments, and
fire-cracked rock. In the
afternoon I excavated the 30-35 cm and 35-40 cm level of 0S-100W and the 30-35
cm level of 1N-100W
– again only recovering flakes, bone fragments and fire-cracked rock in low
densities. I finished the
afternoon excavating the 60-65 cm level of 1N-104W – this level was sterile (see
map below).
We will not meet on Wednesday this week. We will plan on excavating at Sias East
again next
Saturday.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
