Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
Marianne and I made it out to the site on Saturday and began a new row of units
on the north side of the 110 West Block. I’ve made a sketch map of the 110 West
Block so you can see where were digging in the block (see 110-WEST-BLOCK.gif).
We excavated unit 1N-108W to 25 cm. This unit is right on the edge of the top
soil removal and is as far north in the block as there is any intact deposits at
30 cm (see 1N-108W.jpg). We recovered some flakes, bone fragments and F.C.R.
from the plow zone of this unit.
In the afternoon, I trowelled the 25-30 cm level of unit 3S-112W. In addition to
flakes, bone fragments, and F.C.R., there was one biface made of Bayport chert
with one lateral edge consisting of the outer cortex (see BIFACE 3S-112W.jpg).
Shortly after completing this level it began to rain, so we didn’t get as much
done this week.
On Wednesday we’ll be at the Resource Building. Next Saturday, we’ll plan on
excavating at the site.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
