Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,

My apologies to those of you who showed up yesterday to find out I hadn’t arrived. My alternator broke near Chapin and I had to have my car towed to a repair shop in Ithaca to get it fixed. I called Dave and saw that he had left a note on the gate when I arrived at the site about noon (- thanks Dave).

I excavated the 30-35 cm levels of units 1S-104W and 1S-105W in the afternoon (see Map). These levels produced numerous flakes and bone fragments with some pottery and F.C.R. I recovered two points from 1S-105W – these are associated with the Middle Woodland occupation (see Photo 1 and Photo 2).

This week – I’ll be going up to CNC on Tuesday and Wednesday (the 4th). On Tuesday, I’ll grid out and begin digging units at the Naugle site (next to the Visitor Center) and will continue to excavate unit there on Wednesday. I’m planning on being at Naugle Tuesday afternoon and evening and all day Wednesday (9-8). Note -- there is poison ivy at the Naugle site so wear long pants and gloves.

Hope to see you at the site.

Scott
