Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
We made it out to the site on Saturdays July 17 and 25. On July 17 (see
Map - July 17, 2009) Nik, Lia and I excavated unit
2S-100W, 35-40 cm and 3S-101W, 30-35 cm in the morning. These levels produced a
few flakes and bone fragments. In the afternoon, Lia and I excavated 0S-112W,
40-50 cm, 1S-112W, 40-50 cm, and 2S-112W, 40-45 cm. These levels are below the
main occupation and only produced a few flakes and bone fragments.
Last Saturday (July 25), Dave, Greg, Lia and I worked in the Resource Building
during the morning -- it rained hard about 11:30. In the afternoon I went over
to the site and excavated 1S-112W, 50-60 cm and 2S-112W, 45-60 cm. These levels
are below the main occupation and produced a few scattered flakes and bone
fragments. I found one rimsherd (of what we were calling "Vessel 1" the first
season at the site) in 2S-112W, 45-50 cm. This level had considerable rodent
disturbance and its location there is likely the result of bioturbation (see
Photo 1 and
Map - July 25, 2009).
Yesterday Brigitte, Marianne, and I washed 1/8" screen bags at the Resource
Building.
We will plan on excavating at Sias East on Saturday. Hope to see you at the
site.
Scott
