Hi Oxbow Archaeologist,

We made it out to the site yesterday (July 19) and had a good day of excavation. John O., Marianne, Dave, Kevin, Greg, Lia and I were there (see excavation.jpg). We finished two units begun last week and excavated four new units (see pontonmap 7-19-03.pdf).

514R490. John O., Kevin, and Greg finished this unit that was begun last week. In addition to the usual brick fragments, flat glass, nails, etc., they recovered Old Blue and Red Transfer and stoneware (see 514R490.jpg).

511R500. Dave, Marianne, Lia and I finished this unit that was begun last week. Nothing more was found of note except a white clay pipe stem and rather large nail.

514R500. Dave, Marianne, Kevin, John O., Greg, Lia, and I excavated this unit. In addition to the usual material (bricks, nails, flat glass, earthenware), a Red Transfer sherd and a clear glass facetted bead were recovered (see 514R500.jpg).

512R500. Greg, Lia, John O., Kevin, and I excavated this unit. Blue and Red Transfer and Handpainted earthenware, redware, and an amber bottle fragment were recovered (see 512R500.jpg).

513R500. Greg, Lia, and I excavated this unit. A handpainted earthenware sherd, a ribbed/fluted pipe bowl fragment, a pipe stem fragment, and a stoneware sherd were recovered (see 513R500.jpg).

515R499. In the late afternoon and evening, I began the 5x5 m block to the north and excavated this unit. Old Blue and Red Transfer and Handpainted earthenware, redware, and stoneware was recovered (see 515R499.jpg).

This week, on Wednesday we’ll plan on doing lab work at the Resource Building. Next Saturday we’ll plan on digging.
