Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
We made it out to the site yesterday. John, Marianne, Dave, Nik, Kevin, and Greg
made it out.
I started drawing the profiles of the 60 West trench in the morning.
We continued to excavate the 2x2 unit - units 0N-46W, 1N-46W, 0N-47W, and
1N-47W. We got it down to 30 cm. These units are producing several small
sherdlets of grit tempered pottery (it appears to be early Late Woodland) and
small fragments of calcined bone. We’re also recovering Upper Mercer and Bayport
chert flakes. I made “the find of the day” while trowelling the floor of 1N-47W
at 15 cm to take the floor photo – a Middle Woodland (ca. 200 B.C.-500 A.D.)
projectile point base made from Bayport chert (see the picture below).

This Wednesday we’ll be doing lab work, washing
and flotation at the Resource Building. Next Saturday we’ll plan on excavating
at Sias East and continue to take the 2x2 unit deeper.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
