Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
We made it out to the site on Saturday and Monday.
On Saturday, Kevin, Marianne, Nik, Greg, Lia, Conrad and I excavated units
1-4S-111-112W to 40 cm. We encountered another feature (Fea. 5) in the east half
of units 1S-111W and 2S-111W. This feature is a dark gray/black stain. Numerous
flakes and several bone fragments were recovered from the top of the feature. In
the afternoon, Greg, Lia, and I finished taking out the SW ˝ of Feature 2. There
were a few flakes and small bone fragments. Zone 1 (the “pit” part) was about 35
cm deep.
On Monday, Conrad and I worked on features. I took out the remaining half of the
hearth (white ash and fire reddened silt) in Feature 2 and Conrad started
excavating the NE half of Feature 2. I also started excavating Feature 5 and
recovered flakes and bone fragments (mainly deer). There are patches of fire
reddened silt around the edges of Feature 5.
This week on Wednesday we’ll plan on working at the RB processing flotation
samples and washing 1/8” screen bags. On Saturday, we’ll plan on excavating at
the site.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
