The earthenware from the Cater site contains varieties common around 1840, including Transfer Prints, Handpainted and Edgewares, Annular, and Sponge decorated wares.

The top row of this picture shows Blue Transfer Printed earthenwares (plate and cup fragments).
One Blue Transfer pattern had the pattern name on the back (top row right). This pattern was "LUCERNE" and was manufactured by Joseph Clementson and Company between 1839 and 1864.
One other ceramic manufacturer was identified from an earthenware sherd. This was an impressed "CLEW" backmark on a Monochrome Blue Handpainted sherd. This was from a saucer manufactured by James and Ralph Clews between 1817 and 1834. The sherd in the bottom row center is a fragment from this vessel.
Polychrome Handpainted cup and saucer sherds (Sprig variety) are shown on the bottom left.
Blue Edge plate sherds are shown on the bottom right.

This reconstructed bowl with a beaded rim was found in the cellar at the Cater site.
