Several gun parts and other firearm related artifacts that probably relate to the Chippewa occupation were found on the Ponton site by Art. The artifact illustrated above is a butt plate fragment from a gun. It possibly comes from a Type D English Pattern Trade Rifle. This type of rifle was given to Native Americans by the British Indian Department just before and during the War of 1812.
