POMRANKY COLLECTION

THE POMRANKY COLLECTION

The Ponton site was discovered by Art Pomranky of Midland, Michigan.  He picked up some artifacts on the site as early as the 1950's.  Starting in the late 1960's he surface collected the site for a period of 30-35 years until Chippewa Nature Center purchased the site in the fall of 2001.  Art originally brought the site to the attention of the Oxbow Archaeologists in the fall of 1995.  In November of 2002 he loaned his collection to the Oxbow Archaeologists for study and photography.  The linked pages describe his collection and its importance for the understanding of the site.
