CHIPPEWA OCCUPATION

    In addition to the artifacts associated with the Ponton cabin, various artifacts from the Ponton site can be associated with earlier (and latter?) historic Chippewa occupations.  These artifacts mainly date to the early nineteenth century and are probably contemporary with the Chippewa occupations of site 20MD534 and the Cater site, both located across the river.  Art noted that some of these artifacts came from areas just to the east and west, as well as the cabin site itself.  Follow these links to examine some of these artifacts:
