W10-13 Flintknapping Workshop
Join guest instructor, Tom Hahnenberg, in this hands-on workshop as he guides participants through the ageless process of flintknapping. Geared towards the novice or fist-time flintknapper, participants will learn how to transform a flake of flint into an arrowhead. One session will not make someone a skilled flintknapper, however, through demonstration and first hand personal experimentation, participants will take home a solid understanding of the materials and techniques required for crafting flint into tools as well as a flintknapping toolkit.

Sixty Minute Migration
Join CNC Educator Jackie Kelly during this one-hour family program to get a feel for what it's like to be a migrating animals. Participants will become an animal and have to overcome the same challenges that animals face during migration.

Winter Bird Walk
Ok, technically it's only late fall, not winter, but you'll still need to dress for cold temperatures! Late fall brings a really interesting mix of birds to this area, from late-fall migrants such as Rusty Blackbirds and kinglets, to early-arriving winter birds such as Northern Shrikes and Snow Buntings, to year-round residents. Join Senior Naturalist Janea Little for part or all of this guided walk. Loaner binoculars are available.

Midland's Fur Trade: 1828-1856
Join CNC Historian Kyle Bagnall to learn about Midland's fur trading posts and see reproduction of the historical items from the period. Learn what goods were traded by the American Fur Company in Midland and take a peek into the 1850's ledger of Charles Rodd's trading post to see what items were available to Midland's founding families.

W10-14 Adventures for Women: Geocaching Workshop
What do you get when you mix space age technology and a scavenger hunt? Geocaching! Louise Wilkins, an avid outdoors woman and frequent participant in the Adventures for Women programs, along with CNC Senior Naturalist Janea Little, will lead this program and take you through the basics of geocaching - an outdoor activity that's been sweeping the world for the last few years. Geocachers use a hand- held GPS (Global Positioning System) and the Internet to get coordinates that will lead them to caches hidden all over the world. the caches usually contain a log book, recyclable camera and other treasures. The program will focus on GPS basics, how to get cache coordinates and responsible geocaching behavior. Explore the outdoors in a new way by trying out this popular activity. CNC will provide the GPS units. (If participants bring their own, they must already know the basics of using their specific model.)

Full Moon Stroll
The moon will be rising as we begin our walk this evening, possibly lighting up a snowy landscape for us to enjoy. If there is enough snow (4 inches or more), we'll use snowshoes -- call ahead to reserve a pair (631-0830) or bring your own -- otherwise, we'll "boot" it. Senior Naturalist Janea Little will lead this walk to look for animal tracks and other signs of CNC's wildlife, and to enjoy the view of the nearly-full moon (technically not full until the wee hours of tomorrow morning).
