Introduction
to Fly Tying and Aquatic Biology for Fly
Fishing
Are you tired of spending high prices for
flies? Would you like to know more about what
flies to use for steelhead, salmon, trout, and
bass? Would you like to learn more about the
fascinating aquatic animals that inhabit our
lakes and rivers?
If you answer
yes to the above, we invite you to attend our
four-week Aquatic Biology and Fly Tying Class.
All equipment and materials will be supplied
as we cover over a dozen different types of
flies. You will also receive a copy of
instructions for each type of fly made during
the course. The instructor, John Johnson, is a
veteran trout fisherman and a member of the
Leon P. Martuch Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

Algoma Ski &
Snowshoe CANCELLED
Take the Algoma Central Railway into rugged
Canadian backcountry to spend a few days
enjoying the deep snow and beauty this area
offers. This trip is designed for those who
thoroughly enjoy cross-country skiing and/or
snowshoeing in an area landscaped in big hills
and quiet wilderness areas. The train which
leaves Sault Ste. Marie at 9:00am on Friday
and travels 122 miles through scenic Agawa
Canyon, will drop participants off at Windy
Lake Lodge. Participants will ski or snowshoe
2 miles to camp from the train drop-off
(luggage will be carried for you). This lodge
has over 50 km of groomed trails for skiing
and on snowshoes you can hike to the base of
huge majestic ice falls, to several mountain
top lookouts or explore miles of exquisite
beauty in unbroken snow. Lodging will include
tasty home cooking served family style that
will make you want to come back for seconds,
cozy warm cabins that include fresh bedding
and towels and a centrally located washroom
building with sauna and shower. Snowshoes will
be provided for participants who need them.
Trip leaders
include CNC Naturalist, Tom Lenon and former
CNC board member, Steve Kin, who both have
extensive wilderness experience. Tom has been
a Naturalist at CNC for over 10 years and has
led many field trips including several
snowshoeing trips. His background, including a
master's degree in Wildlife Management,
working with the MDNR and other various
natural resource consultants, will ensure a
trip rich with natural history interpretation.
Steve Kin does a lot of skiing, snowshoeing,
hiking and backpacking and has done extensive
hikes at Mt. Everest twice. He has also done
trail work on the Colorado trail, Midland to
Mackinac trail and CNC's own Ridge trail.
The trip fee
includes, four nights lodging, train tickets,
food while at Windy Lake Lodge, transportation
and Tom and Steve's expertise. In addition to
this fee, participants will need to cover the
costs of three meals (Thursday's supper,
Friday's breakfast, Monday's supper). A
minimum of six participants is needed for this
trip to go. A pre-trip will also be set prior
to the field trip date to explain further
details. If you have any questions contact Tom
Lenon at tlenon@chippewanaturecenter.org
or (989) 631-0830. Bring personal clothing,
snowshoes and skis. |
