Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,

Becky, Marianne, and I made it out to Sias East yesterday. It was a pleasant day though a little windy.

We continued to excavate units 0S-103W, 0S-104W, 1N-103W, and 1N-104W (see Map). In the morning we excavated the 35-40 cm level of units 0S-103W, 1N-103W, and 1N-104W. The units produced numerous flakes, bone fragments, fire-cracked rock, and a few GTP sherds at this level.  About the most interesting thing we found yesterday was a medium-sized mammal mandible, I think it’s a raccoon but I’ll let Terry make the call (see Photo). In the afternoon, I excavated the 40-45 cm level of units 0S-103W, 0S-104W, and 1N-103W. There are still some flakes (6-11), bone fragments (2-3), and fire-cracked rock (2-3) at this level, but the density of material is much lower.

This week we will be at the Resource Building this Wednesday. We plan on excavating at Sias East next Saturday.

Hope to see you at the site.

Scott
