Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
We made it to the Sias East site yesterday. Marianne, Kevin, Dave, Nik, Becky,
and I made it out.
We began the morning by laying out a five meter long row of units to test the
eastern limit of the site (see MAP and
Photo 1). In the
morning, we excavated unit 1S-101W, 0-25 cm and 1S-102W, 0-20 cm. Both these
units contained flakes, F.C.R. and a few bone fragments and GTP. There seemed to
be less material in 1S-101W, so we may be near the edge of the site.
In the afternoon, I finished excavating unit 2S-109W to 35 cm. This unit
contained Feature 3, a shallow hearth. Several flakes and bone fragments were
recovered. I began excavating unit 2S-107W, 30-35 cm and got to 33 cm. There
were lots of flakes and some fire reddened sand and ash along the central
portion of the east side of this unit.
This week we’ll plan on working at the Resource Building on Wednesday evening.
Next Saturday we’ll plan on excavating as usual.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
