Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
Dave, Greg and I made it out to Sias East yesterday and continued excavating the
60 West trench. In the afternoon we got it down “1 Scott” (2 meters – see
picture below) in unit 60W-South. There was a dark brown layer below the pale
brown sand layer we identified last week. This layer appears to be ending at 2
meters. We didn’t find any cultural material yesterday – just snail shells and a
few pebble. This is as deep as we’ll be able to take this unit. Next Saturday,
I’ll start drawing the profiles and dig a shovel text in the middle of 60W-South
to see what the strata look like deeper. We’ll also take down the upper levels
of the 46-47 west units we began last week (we should find more cultural
material there).
I’ll be on vacation and out of email contact this week, but I will be at CNC
Wednesday evening and next Saturday. Wednesday we’ll do lab work at the Resource
Building and next Saturday we’ll dig at Sias East.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
