Hi Oxbow Archaeologists,
Marianne, Becky, and I made it out to the site yesterday and had a good day
excavating (see the map below).
In the morning we excavated the 35-40 cm level of 1N-100W and began 1N-99W (0-20
cm). We only recovered flakes, bone fragments and some fire-cracked rock.
In the afternoon, I excavated the 40-45 cm level of units 0S-100W, 0S-101W, and
1N-101W. There were numerous flakes and bone fragments, particularly in 0S-100W
and 0S-101W. There was also an area of burned silt (orange) in the southeast
quarter of 0S-100W.
No diagnostic artifacts were recovered this week. The upper level of 1N-99W did
contain a lot of 20th century trash.
This week we will be working at the Resource Building on Wednesday evening. If
the weather is nice I’d like to get the waterscreening and flotation going. Next
Saturday we will plan on excavating at Sias East.
Hope to see you at the site.
Scott
