2005 Christmas Party

On Wednesday, November 16, 2005 the Oxbow Archaeologists held their annual Christmas Party and a farewell party for longtime Oxbow member John Osborne.  We held the party at CNC's Visitor Center's "River Overlook" (see Photo 1).

Our longtime member John Osborne (see Photo 2) retired from Dow Chemical Company in June and moved back to Canada at the end of November.  John came to Midland in 1995 and volunteered with the Oxbow Archaeologists for 10 years.  He was a "regular" at our digs at the Cater, Upper Village (20MD534), Ponton, and Sias East sites, as well as in the lab.  We will miss John and we wish him the best of luck!

At the party, Brigitte Glaser organized the dinner (Chinese food, see Photo 3) and Marianne McKelvy made a "farewell" cake for John (see Photos 4-8).

After we ate, Dave Frurip presented Nik Smolinski with our "Rookie of the Year" award (see Photo 10).  Nik first came to our lab sessions last winter and has become one of our most active members!  Dave also presented John with a framed plaque (see Photo 11 and Photo 12) and Marianne gave John various gifts, including a Michigan map oven mitten (see Photo 13).  After the awards, John showed us a video of his recent trip to Mexico and three short animated movies he made in the 1960's.
